Every donation to Shiba Prom goes directly to care for rescued Shibas throughout the U.S.
Welcome to Shiba Prom! If you know the internet sensation “Doge,” you know the Shiba Inu: a small, bright, and independent breed of dog originally bred as a hunting companion in Japan.
Unfortunately, this new popularity has also created some significant problems for the breed. “Puppy mills,” aka animal farms, breed Shibas in poor and often inhumane conditions (which is why the ASPCA recommends that you never buy an animal from a pet store). Many new owners realize that they aren’t ready for the time and energy it takes for training, which results in situations such as neglect, surrender, and even abandonment.
That’s where Shiba Prom comes in. We are a U.S.-based, 501(c)3 volunteer organization of Shiba owners and enthusiasts dedicated to helping improve the lives of Shibas wherever we can.
Each year, we raise funds through events such as costume photo contests, doggie gift basket raffles, and more. Our namesake event is Shiba Prom, a wild ’n’ crazy online chat party that’s just like real prom only better, because Shibas!
All funds raised are distributed in the form of financial grants to Shiba rescue organizations*. We also work to build greater understanding and awareness of the Shiba in all its furry, stubborn glory.
How You Can Help
Donate any amount you’d like via PayPal. Thank you, the Shibas woof you very much! Join our Facebook group to see photos from past Proms and get updates on fun events throughout the year, such as our “Howl-O-Ween” photo contest, Shiba Prom, and much more. Shop for fun stuff at our online “Shiba Shop.” Grab a T-shirt, travel mug, and even pajamas! Contact us anytime with questions, to find out about volunteering opportunities, or to debate the merits of bacon vs. cheese.
*Shiba Prom NFP volunteers do not earn a salary or receive any financial benefit from any part of Shiba Prom. We operate with a minimum of expenses so that we can distribute the majority of donations to Shiba-focused animal welfare and rescue organizations. If any of us do participate in any Shiba Prom–sponsored event, we will award any prizes won to the second runner-ups. All Shiba Prom records are publicly available; please feel free to contact us with questions.
